The Bears Maul the Bulldogs in Season Opener



LEETONIA - The Leetonia Bears waited three weeks to kick off their season. With covid and the cancellation of a season from Chalker, the Bears have been chomping at the bit to get started. Unfortunately, the East Palestine Bulldogs took the blunt of their frustration.

The Bears scored on their first seven offensive possession to build a 38-0 halftime lead, and eventually a 52-0 advantage at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs would keep fighting as they added two touchdowns in the final frame of the game.

Quarterback Joe Guido rushed for 115 yards on 6 carries and scored two touchdowns in the game, while Jake McCool added 110 yards on 12 carries and another two scores. Sophomore running back Hayden Cibula would rush for 107 yards on 11 attempts, and add three touchdown runs.

The Bears wasted no time in the game as Guido scored on the just the second play of the game to give the Bears a 8-0 lead. They built a 16-0 lead when Cibula scored his first touchdown just a few minutes later on a 8-yard run.

McCool got in the scoring column at the 10:23 mark of the second quarter on a 14-yard run. Followed by a 34-yard run by Guido to make it 32-0 with 6:23 remaining in the first half.

Cibula would score his second touchdown of the game just before halftime to give the Bears a commanding 38-0 lead at the intermission.





The Bears continued the onslaught by intercepting the Bulldogs on the first play of the second half and scoring five plays later on a Cibula 26-yard run. McCool added a 4-yard run to give the Bears a 52-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs would score twice in the fourth quarter, with Tyler Bistarkey racing 63 yards for their first score. The quarterback Owen Jurjavcic would connect with Ryan Rosen on a 18-yard pass to finish the scoring in the game.
